Identical in every way to the Bray “Vic Johnson Signature 4550” that Vic uses live and in the studio, this amplifier utilizes 8 years of R & D between myself and Vic Johnson of Sammy Hagar and the Wabos. Playing songs by Sammy Hagar, Van Halen, and Montrose all on the same night and without a keyboard player, Vic requires an amplifier with a full spectrum and thick, musical midrange. With this amp, Vic gets a large variety of timbres by manipulating the controls on the guitar. I was very fortunate to be involved with Vic in doing numerous modifications to his Marshall 100 watt Plexi over the years, some of which I was able to do on the amp with the band present during sound check. When we started discussing a Vic Johnson model, Vic suggested having it as a 50 watt unit, so we chose the Bray 4550 as the platform, then added to it the same customized modifications that we did to his Marshall 100 watt Plexi over the years. Features include: Midrange Boost Switch, Zero-Loss FX Series Effects Loop (Vic uses a tape or analog style echo here) , High-Cut Control, Dual-Output Level “Wife Knobs”w/ Footswitch. $3800.

The Bray “Vic Johnson 4550” includes:

-Completely hand-wired, hand-soldered Point-To-Point turret board and components

-Precision tight-wound tube filament wiring design to eliminate AC filament hum

-Bray spec'd custom-wound transformers by Heyboer

-Gold color 16 gauge zinc-plated steel chassis

-3 ECC83 preamp tubes, 2 EL34 output tubes, 1 GZ34 rectifier tube

-3-way Standby Switch lets you choose between Tube and Solid State Rectifier, and is Bias-Compensated

-Midrange Boost Switch

-Zero-Loss FX Series Effects Loop (Vic uses a tape or analog style echo here)

-High-Cut Control, to transparently reduce high frequencies in bright rooms

-NEW Gangster ™ Button affects the Channel 1 gain setting via a footswitch button. When the footswitch LED is ON, this causes the Channel 1 setting to go instantly to 10, from whatever setting it is set at. Have it on 5 for a classic mild breakup, then step on the button and bang, instant gain boost without a tone change distraction. Or, have it set lower for a clean sound, then hit the button for dirty. Very transparent.

-Dual Output Level “Wife Knobs” and included LED footswitch allows switching to a louder volume level for solos, as well as keeping your volume level loud when turning down your guitar's volume level for a clean sound

-Plexi Style Channel 1 Bright and Channel 2 Dark channels allow you to mix each one into your sound how you want without the use of a separate jumper cable

-Channel 1 Bright Switch added to the Channel 1 Volume Control, adding high frequencies when pulled out. Although bypassed when the volume control is all the way up, it is useful for Classic Rock sounds when the Channel 1 Volume is set around 6. Pulled out, it adds just a bit of “clang” to bring you out of the mix.

-Plus Mode places the channels from parallel into series (as well as a few tonal changes), allowing even higher gain sounds, custom voiced for Vic

-Your choice of tolex colors, at no additional charge

- (H) 9" x (W) 26" x (D) 8-1/4" , 39 lbs.
