Hey Dave,
I played a gig last night with my amp and I am very very happy with it.Last
night was kind of like the old days when I played this amp, occassionally
guys come up to me on break and say "you sound great, what are you using for
pedals?" and I say "nothing","what do you mean nothing?"and I say"nothing"."You
mean you plug straight into that thing and sound that good?" and I say "yup".
Thanks for bringing my old '74 back to life,
take it easy, Jim

Hi Dave,
i just got the amp in today, i really love it, i think you did a fantastic
job................i wish that i had know about your amps along time ago
because i played ...marshall after marshall amplifiers.......and never really
satisfied with the tones of the new ones. This is really a treat for me as
i have never owned a custom amp built just for me, i know i will have many
...many years..........of an incredible all hand wired "DAVID BRAY" amplifier!
(it will probably out live me). 8) I know you have been extremely busy with
a lot of things going on, and i do appreciate the work you put into the amplifier.
I hope to talk with you soon and personally thank you.
best regards
Dave
I'm gonna go play with the amp now and discover some new tones...rock on

David,
The amp has arrived and it just unbelievable - this is the sound I've had
in my head for such a long time!! It's nice to know my search is
finally over. I think you've built me the best sounding plexi ever made!
I cannot thank you enough.
Kind regards,

Hi Dave
Thank you for this an amazing amp that just delivers this pissed off Plexi
roar. Now I can get all those classic Plexi tones with ease. It does Angus,
Hendrix, EVH, Randy, Yngwie etc. It even does those early trash metal tones
and still cleans up well and cuts through in a band environment. I asked
for a simple rock n' roll workhorse and you did it.
Thank You

Dear David:
Sorry it took me so long to get back to you. Amazing work - I've played
it all evening and had some friends who also played it and they were equally
as amazed. When they first started playing, I didn't say anything about
it being a Bray mod. After they started playing the amp, they said "what
is this?" "this is the best sounding Marshall I've ever heard". It's so
even and smooth and also equally as versatile. Ireally don't know what to
say. But, what I do want to do is thank you for letting me part of such
a great product. I just hope I can do your work justice. I look forward,
even more so now, to working with you (David Bray Amps) in promoting an amp
that truly is all the hype that a lot of these companies build an amp to
be. I guess the only thing this amp is missing is a Bray logo! Talk
to you soon.
Thanks, Chelsea

This is the best sounding amp I have ever owned! No fizzy distortion here.
Just pure tone and power! I have tried many amps in the last 20 years and
there is always something I want to improve on. Not with this amp. David

Dave,
Okay, so I got back into town yesterday after a week in Miami, FL for a conference....waiting
anxiously to try out my new amp.
I have to say this--I am completely pissed off..............pissed that I
didn't send the amp to you YEARS ago. It sounds absolutely amazing. The
tone is pure brown sound, I could immediately dial in my tone. Here is why
I am REALLY upset...
I have spent the past 3 years slave amping my plexi (and before that my DSL--before
I sold it) to get my tone. I was never a fan of the standard “master volume”
on Marshalls because, it seemed that you never could get that raw crunch
from fully saturated power tubes and it relied to heavily on preamp distortion
which sounded fuzzy--hence a slave amp Plexi became the way to go for me.
I'm not sure exactly how you did what you did, but the way you have designed
your master volume makes the amp very musical. It sounds like the power
tubes are ramped up 100%, even at a setting of 2.
Now, I must say, I did run the amp through my slave amp setup--to try it
out. Again, it sounds great--but I am kind of remisced that it sounds better
WITHOUT the slave. All that investment I did on my palmer speaker simulator..Carvin
power amp, etc....ugggh! For all the experimention and tweaking I went through...I
hate you for making the sound so easy to get (just kidding on the hate part:)
The other thing I've got to get my hands on is an Echoplex. I had one a
few years ago...sold it...now I miss it. What a great piece of equipment.
Anyhow, because of the great work you did, I am likely going to send you
my HW 1959 Plexi for some similar work...although I will need to talk with
you again. I probably won't be able to get around to it until springtime
(I need to replenish the funds, so to speak--plus got some other expenses
at the moment). I'm thinking April-May time.
All I can say is GREAT WORK. So mad I'm on call in the hospital tonite as
I'm DYING to play right now. Again, I'm just PISSED you made dialing in
my tone so damn easy.
THANKS AGAIN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

David,
Greetings from Fargo ND. I have to apologize. This was a long time
coming. Between the holidays and the beautiful weather we've had here,
( 1-2ft snow on Christmas Day, multiple blizzards, 50 below wind chill temps,
and ice storms ) I didn't have a chance to thank you. I have had a chance
to enjoy this beast you sent me. And man you delivered. This thing ROARS!
I love it. I love that as I push it and the overdrive gets thicker it is
still articulate and you can hear the wood of the guitar and every note.
No flubby mudd to hide behind which is exactly what I asked for.
I have to say I was surprised at what a great guy you were to work with.
I am Joe nobody, and to actually get to tell you what I wanted and how I
wanted it to sound was great, rather than, "here you go, you get what you
get.". You really took the time to find out what I was looking for and were
genuine to talk to. My first amp wasn't a David Bray but my last amp sure
as hell will be! Already Considering a 50 or 100 watt Bray Plexi Mod II.
I think I'm addicted. Anyway hope you are well and thanks again.

Hey Dave,
Just wanted to drop you a line regarding the recent Mod 1 Re-Work you did
to my Marshall 1987X. I have been playing the shit out of this amp since
I got it (I'm actually taking a break from playing it right now to write
this e-mail). I haven't been this enamored with a piece of gear since I was 15 and
got my first Electric Guitar rig : )
I have had the chance to gig with it three times since I received it. It
sounds fantastic in a live situation. The really great thing about it, which
I've never experienced with any other amp I've owned, is how it "sits" in
the mix. It is never over-powering the rest of the guys in the band (unless
I want it to), but still cuts through the mix and it also seems to find it's
own "pocket" to sit in and enhance. Maybe I'm just hallucinating, but if
I am I hope I don't stop.
I've also had a number of other guitar players play through it with their
guitars and each one of them found "their" tone, all of which were different,
but all of which were great. Everyone who has played through this amp loves
it and a few of them are already talking about giving you a call.
Anyway, just wanted you to know how much I appreciate the work that you have
done for me. This amp will be with me for a very long time.

Hi Dave,
I received the amp last week, and I love it! I can use it for nearly every
music -just turn some knobs...I really like the sound, clean and
distorted - a real joy!!! Thanks a lot for the work, I'm a huge fan now!
Keep up the work,
greets from Germany,

Hey Dave
Sorry it took me so long to get this to you. My 1987x, in short, is truly
the best thing that I have EVER had the joy of playing a guitar through.
With the "SoloDallas" mod I can get from the most clear clean sound I've
ever heard up to as dirty and crunchy as one could desire. All pure ROCK
and WELL worth the wait.
My SG sounds sound better than I could have imagined through this monster. The
AC/DC "tone" I've tried to find for years is now here!!!! Thanx soooo much
for all!!! And again, your help with the GC people is greatly appreciated.
Later Much,

Hi David,
I plugged the combo into an Avatar Contemporary Cabinet with a G12M Greenback
and and a G12H30 combo both at 16 ohms like you suggested and it is pure
bliss. What would it cost for you to build me a 50 watt head (Bray?) with
the same sound as you used (Mod 1 plus) that I can use with this cabinet? There
are a few Marshall 1987x Plexis that you worked on on ebay that vary in price
from $799 to $1800, but I would rather buy directly from you if possible. I
love the combo, but would like to just keep it in the house and use a 50
watt head with the Avatar cabinet for when I play out.
Thanks,
JC

Hey David,
Had a little time to jam on the 2204 at band and above volume levels. I'm
speechless, wow did this thing kill! THAT is the sound, tone I have been
lookin for for the last 20 years! You my friend have a special gift. Thanks
for putting this package together for me. Still eagerly awaiting those new
clips of the project your workin on, and I will be sending you some mp3's
of a future project I'd like to work on with you. But for now really enjoying
the amazing Mashall. Sorry for the rant but you gotta hear from a customer
when you hit a grand slam. Again thank you! Talk soon, hope all is well.

Hey Dave,

Great work!

Hi Dave,
Well, I've been playing the amp all morning. Man, it's just spectacular.
It has so much crunch. I find that the low gain input with the normal channel
cranked is the ultimate classic plexi tone- AC/DC to old ZZ Top to old Priest.
The high input with both channel volumes up is pure madness- just over the
top gain and sustain. Just wow! I'll be sure to tell my buddies on the gear
forums what an awesome amp I have!
Thanks again for everything,
Best,
Khan.

Hi Dave!! , well i do not know how to describe the feeling in words what
it feels like to FINALLY get what you want, the tone chase isn't like chasing
the woman of your dreams , it was for me at least expensive time consuming
frustrating etc , so so I thought well i have this dying marshall i give
ave a shot , lol this isnt even on the same as the boogies, hiwatts, xxx
and the xxxxxx that ive played ad nauseum, the chainsaw ,jar of bees ,
non musical distortions, etc, im pleased to say the least, im overwhelmed
by , how the amp is now is an extension of my playing , no more fighting
!!!it lets me linger on notes , rather the fly through them , it felt so
right even with the guitar vol on 7! [i played at least 30 mins] without
even checking to see where it was positioned ,thought it was dimed ! it cleans
up , , it rolls over, it gives paw, it brings back the ball, this is one
unbelievable work of art now , im sure the vintage marshall stuff you had
to work with helps, but it never would have been capable of what its doing
now , i have another vintage 1974 marshall 100w super lead mk2 that was modded
before i received it and it is garbage never gonna get played , so its
going to California soon , same deal, i need to sell some amps now lol to
fund the trip out west., one other thing ,now also the choice of pickup
NOW makes the difference , i can honestly say after 6 hours of almost straight
playing ,[which i haven't done that in years] ican i cam finally, finally
focus on my playing and STOP BLAMEING THE DAMN AMP!

Hey David Bray,
Mike P. here from up in Minot, ND. Just wanted to give you a update on the
amp you built for me. Got it last week early in the morning had to wait all
day to plug into it, maddening. Packed great, no problems, as soon as I unpacked
it you could tell this was a well made amp, flawless workmenship, the amp
just looks killer, I stared at it all day. Now the sound!!!! I've never ever
ever ever played on an amp like this that I can recall, the sound is just
outstanding! Full solid driven tones, no thin, weak stuff in this baby. Notes
ring clear and true, no mush in this baby. Tones abound from it with your
guitar volume alone, outstanding. Just what I wanted, a responsive insturment
that responds to you and how you are playing. All the features you put on
it work great, I really like the dual master, great tool. In summery, This
is just what I had in my head for a great sounding amp, and you pulled into
your design, you must be some kind of freak, { in a good way} to be able
to do that like you do. I will sing your prasies high from the moutain top
for sure. David Bray thanks so much for making such a Steller Amp!!!!! P,S.
the boys and girl in the band are going to freak out when I unleash this
puppy on them, I will take no prisoners or show no mercy on them in your
honer. Thanks again.

Great Work !!!
Dave, Just letting you know that I recieved the amp back today. IT ROCKS
! I quickly found where the different tones were comming from and really
found some nice ones in there. Rolling off of the guitar volume cleans up
great, no need for a clean channel anymore.
I am very very happy with it... and you were right, I couldnt put the guitar
downand all of a sudden 2 hours went by. lol Thanks once again, and I would
be more than happy to put out good reviews for youand the excellent service
you provide.
Keep rockin.

Hi Dave. Got a chance to play w/the mod today. Really cool. Has that vh sound
that you can't get from a pedal or stock marshall. I use to use my tonebone
hotbritish before the mod and it sounded pretty good but you had to get some
serious volume behind it to have some fun. I can't imagine how anyone could
say that the modI doesn't have enough distortion. And I'm a distortion freak.
To get that type of sound at bedroom volume is what every bedroom player
shoots for. It's awesome dude. Thanks

Dave,
If someone would have told me years ago that it was not necessary to purchase
an expensive boutique amp in order to get the Van Halen 1 tone, I probably
wouldn't have believed them. Now, after having you mod 4 of my Marshalls
from all different years with stellar results, I am preparing to send you
yet another Marshall to receive the highly coveted Van Halen 1 tone mod.
I just cannot get enough of that "Holy Grail" of tone! Gee, I am sure you
never would have guessed that! You truly have a gift of "Golden Ears" and
your mods on my amps back it up. I love seeing the expressions on jaded guitarist's
faces when I fire up one of my Marshalls and they almost faint from disbelief
when they hear the first few chords of "Jamies Crying" or anything from Van
Halen 1 and realise that it IS POSSIBLE to get that elusive sound instead
of settling for the current "Chainsaw" and "Hornet's Nest in a Jar" tone.
They then require plastic surgery to have the permanent smile removed from
their face. Not to mention it completely nails old AC/DC Led Zeppelin and
old Aerosmith from the "Toys" and "Rocks" period. As long as you are around,
there is no reason for people to have
mediocre tone.
LIFES TOO SHORT TO SETTLE FOR CRAPPY GUITAR TONE!
Thanks again for all of your help and expertise,
S. Freeman

David, I received my JTM45 this week. All I can say is WOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
It is the BEST SOUND AMP EVER. PERIOD!!! I don't know what you do but this
blows away every amp I've even owned including a '71 Marshall Super Lead,
a '75 Marshall non master JMP, a '79 Marshall JMP 50, and an early 80's
JCM800.
I've compared this amp to friends RI Marshalls modded with PTP boards, new
transformers, etc. ...and this amp smokes it! Highly dynamic, responds well
to picking and guitar volume...and more gain than I will ever need. I'm selling
all of my OD pedals and my Blackface Fender Bassman!!
With my '57 historic LP it is the best classic rock sound i have ever heard!
With my Strat...Stevie or Jimi with a flip of the pickup selector and a turn
of the volume knob!! I'm not changing a thing...not tubes, not transformers...you
are a Tone God!!
I fond the perfect settings for me are: Ch. 1 volume 6-7, channel 2 volume
4-5, bass 3, mids 10, treble 10, presence 10. With my guitar volume rolled
down to 3-4..I get the perfect Jimmy page tone..I can also get a great Allman
Brothers vibe going...turn up the guitar volume to 6-7..I'm in Heartbreaker
Solo Tone from How the West Was Won..volume all the way up...I'm in a tone
heaven I've never had in 4 years!!!
Thank you so much for the perfect sounding amp!! I have been singing your
praise on every Forum I belong to!!

Dave, I just wanted to thank you again for the mod. My friend and I checked
the bias on my reissue this past week and I wanted to let you know what a
great and neat job you did with the mod. Oddly enough we noticed that the
amp has already had the caps at 17 & 18 removed from the circuit - someone
must have done it before I got ahold of it. I've been using my Weber attenuator/"hotplate"
with the amp (running one master wide open, and the other at around 3 o'clock).
It really screams -- I can barely tell a difference between the tone quality
between the two settings; one just boosts the signal. This set-up is awesome
as now I can use the attenuator for overall volume of the rig. I used the
head at a show this past week this past week and had a number of compliments
on how my leads were cutting through the mix. A couple of guys from the other
band loved the dual master mod and had never heard of it before. I'll definately
recommend your work to anyone I come across that's interested. Thanx!

Hi Dave. Got my amp yesterday! I have about 3 1/2 hrs. playing time on the
amp so far. I LOVE THE TONE!!!! I get harmonics that are so sweet and the
master volume let's me dial in exactly the sound I want. You nailed it on
the head with suggesting the right mod for me. I installed the tubes in numerical
sequence as numbered and fired 'er up and have yet to find a bad sound. Thanx
Dave and I would like to do business in the future...maybe a new JTM45 modded
by you at this time next year hopefully. One of my buddies says he might
dump his POD and start saving his pennies for one of you amps. Anyways...peace
and thanx Dave.

Hiya David, I just wanted to thank you once again for the amazing job you
did on my 1987x Marshall. To this day I am still finding new tonal variations
that are truly unbelievable sounding! I just bought a Fender Tele and I think
I like that best through the amp. They seem to work so well together even
though my Strat and Les Paul sound awesome also. Everyone in the band loves
my new tones. As I wrote you before, as soon as I have some extra money I
will soon be sending you my 1959 SLP. This time I want a Mod I. I tell ya
man! You should be making own amps and selling them. I know they would be
the best sellong and sounding amps that money could buy. I know I would buy
one.
Thank you ever so much!

hey Dave, It was a pleasure getting together backstage with you at the Van
Halen show in South Dakota, which my band "Jonas" was the opener. It was
there that I first saw the "Fiery" Plexi 100 RI that you modded. I was impressed
by the many gain options that this "Stock" looking amp had to offer. I knew
I had to add it to my collection. From Chicken-Pickin' to Crunch, there's
a ton of fun to be had everytime I plug into it! And you're a super-nice,
helpful dude to boot! Let me get back to playing, the windows have stopped

Dave; Just wanted to drop you a line to say "Thanks". I have finally have
had a few "minutes" to spare, post the birth of my daughter 3 weeks ago.
I have to say, had I found out about you 10 years earlier, I would probably
be $10,000 richer. That's the honest truth!. Many guitarists are out here
wasting money on the next "best thing" to get us that special tone we all
are looking for. I admit it, "I am a gear slut!" It's truly wasteful spending
because once you play through a finely tuned Marshall head, everything else
becomes "Not Exactly". I just love the tone coming out of this JCM 800! The
only way I can describe it is: "It's like eating Lays potato chips and sucking
on a orange at the same time... greasy and snappy, with a sweet citrus top
end". Bizarre, but I think that sums it up. It's really opened my eyes to
an amps sensitivity to pickup selection. Prior to your mod, with my Marshall
I would want a "hot" pickup to punish the input. Now I find the best pickup
for the Marshall is one that is not sooo "hot" and lets the notes ring through.
The amp does all the work. What a difference! A very happy customer!!! My

Dave!!
I spent the better part of this weekend with a good buddy of mine playing
thru my amp and all I have got to say is WOW!! Dave, words can't describe
how good my amps sounds now since you have worked on it. I have stayed away
from Marshalls for many years because to be honest with you, I could never
get them to sound good at a reasonable volume!! Well that's now a thing of
the past. The work that you have done on my amp is second to none! The pick
dynamics and responsiveness on the amp are NOW amazing! This amp breathes
and allows the player's dynamics to come out. I'm also thrilled about how
good the master mod sounds!! I can now get a cranked amp tone at any volume
and that's priceless since I live in a condo!! I let my friend play thru
the amp and when he hit the first chord, the look on his face was worth it's
weight in gold! Dave, I can't thank you enough!! As always, I wish you the
VERY best and may you have continued success with your amp mods!!

"Dave I got the amp! I can't even describe how happy I am with this amp.
Before this Marshall, my main amp was an... After 2 minutes with the amp
I had a huge smile across my face. I love the way leads just scream and
swell into feedback perfectly. This amp is EXACTLY what I wanted. So thanks
so much for modding this thing for me Dave. I'll recommend you to anyone
that wants to get that rodded Marshall sound! Who knows...maybe I'll send
you a Plexi sometime too :) Take care and
talk to you later Dave."

"Hi Dave: The Marshall sounds killer. I am VERY pleased. Nice amount of gain
without being overbearing. I ran some NOS preamp tubes and it really likes
a dang Japanese 7025 in V1, and RFT ECC83 in V2 AND V3. Really thickend and
tightened the lows. I can blow some nice atriculate chicken pickin' riffs
out, then jack the volume knob and WOW! Still, it begs to be loud, so I crank
it. My neighbors seem to like the tone too. No police yet!..."

"Hi Dave, I have been play through my amp and it sounds great. I'm able to
play stright up rock all the way to metal, Great job!!! thanks. I have yet
to crank this beast up but that is coming up next. Curios When you did your
sound clips, What settings did you use and effects if any? I will say this
amp is a lot more versatile then before. This has become my Number 1 amp
head, I have been playing through A JMP master volume and lately A major
200 watt, but I really like the 1959 ri the best. My friend I told you about
has the 50 watt ri will probably be sending his amp your way after he gets
back from vacation for the mod. Again I would like to thank you for A great
job. Have A great day"

"Hey Dave, as you know I was quite relunctant to have my amp worked on. But
after I heard your rig, I just had to have mine beefed up. Even though I
am a JCM 800 guy, I wanted some more gain in the mids and overall. WOW!!!
Not only does it have gain that just doesn't end, but with a few knob turns
it sounds just like it's old self again, or anything in between. It is such
a sweet amp now, and again thanks!!!"
